2026 Aspiring Directors Program

Participation in this course meets the recommended best practices for continuing directors education prescribed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Step into the boardroom with confidence through the Aspiring Directors Program (ADP), a one-day preparatory course designed for professionals seeking their first board seat across publicly listed, private, family-owned, non-profit, and government-owned corporations.

Unlike the Corporate Governance Orientation Program (CGOP), which provides professionals and newly appointed directors with the technical foundation of corporate governance, the ADP is designed for aspiring directors who have not yet joined a board and need to establish their readiness, positioning, and value proposition. Using globally recognized frameworks such as the 4Rs (Reflect–Reveal–Reimagine–Reach), the 4Cs (Competence–Commitment–Character–Chemistry), and the Board Director Competency Model, participants will assess their readiness, uncover their unique value proposition, and craft an individual development plan and campaign roadmap.

The ADP sets a high standard for aspiring directors by requiring clarity of purpose, alignment to governance principles, and demonstrable commitment to ethical leadership and value creation. With personalized outputs, mentoring pathways, and action learning, the program ensures quality preparation for candidates ready to elevate boards and the organizations they serve.

Mr. Roy O. Emata, FICD

Mr. Emata is a Management Consultant and Board Advisor to local and foreign families in Estate Tax Planning, Family Governance of family-owned and and-run corporations, Strategic Management, Mergers & Acquisitions among others. He was the former Chair and Country Managing Director of PDE Enertech 8 Holdings, Inc. and Key Executive of Family Corporations as Managing Director for Operations, Strategic Operations and Finance. He is also a member of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants and an ICD Fellow as part of the institute’s Teaching Faculty.

Dr. Ramon B. Segismundo, FICD

Dr. Ramon B. Segismundo is a leadership coach and management adviser to top corporation and MSMEs, senior management expert with a doctorate in business administration from Singapore Management University, judicial reform advocate and consultant to the Philippine Supreme Court, a faculty with the Graduate Program of the De La Salle College of Business teaching, Strategic Management and International Management, and a Stanford University Distinguished Careers Fellow with Sustainability Leadership and Executive Longevity and Wellness as areas of focus.

Backed by many decades of strategic human resources management experience in International and Asia Pacific, he is passionate about corporate governance specializing in succession planning, leadership development, performance based remuneration and strategic human resources policies and programs that drives organizational performance and unleashes the potential of a company’s human capital.

Atty. Benedicta Du-Baladad, FICD

Atty. Benedicta “Dick” Du-Baladad is the current Chairman of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) in the Philippines. From 2019 to 2022, she served as Co-Chair of the Capital Market Development Council, where she played a key role in shaping initiatives aimed at strengthening the Philippine capital markets. Throughout her leadership roles, she has consistently influenced key policies and brought together stakeholders in support of long-term institutional change, particularly in the areas of corporate good governance, capital market development, and equitable taxation.

She currently serves as Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Commerce, a universal bank listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange. Beyond this role, she has held leadership positions in several of the country’s major business and professional organizations. She was President of the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) in 2023 and President of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) in 2017. Earlier in her career, she also served as President of the Tax Management Association of the Philippines (TMAP) in 2004.

A lawyer and accountant by profession, Dick is the Founding Partner and CEO of Du-Baladad and Associates (BDB Law), a firm known for its work in legal, tax, and regulatory advisory. She earned a joint Master’s degree in Law and International Taxation from Harvard University and has served in both government and the private sector, including a key role at the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). In 2024, she was recognized as one of Asia’s Top 15 Female Lawyers by Asian Legal Business. Outside of her professional work, she leads the BDB Law foundation that supports initiatives in education, livelihood, and public health, and enjoys writing, painting, fashion design, and gardening. She is a proud mother of four sons.

Ms. Tomasa H. Lipana, FICD

Ms. Tomasa “Tammy” H. Lipana is a seasoned corporate director and former Chairman and Senior Partner of Isla Lipana & Co./PwC Philippines, with nearly four decades of experience in audit, taxation, corporate governance, and business advisory. She has served as an independent director and audit committee chair/member in various companies across banking, insurance, manufacturing, and other industries, and currently sits on the boards of several leading organizations. A Certified Public Accountant and respected governance advocate, she brings deep expertise in risk management, strategy, and board oversight.

Atty. Pedro H. Maniego, Jr., FICD

Atty. Pete Maniego was the chair of ICD in 2024 and Managing Trustee in 2023, and has been a Fellow since 2007 and a trustee of the Institute since 2015. He was ICD's Fellows Committee Chair from 2015 to 2023, is an independent director of RASLAG Corporation and Armscor Global Defense Inc, chairman emeritus of the Energy Lawyers Association, senior policy advisor of the Institute of Climate and Sustainable Cities and a faculty member of the Ateneo School of Government. He served as chair of the National Renewable Energy Board from 2010 to 16. He is a BS Industrial Engineering and Juris Doctor graduate of the University of the Philippines.
