The Board of Trustees carries the highest responsibility in any non-profit organization—providing strategic direction, safeguarding stakeholder trust, ensuring financial sustainability, and advancing the organization’s mission with integrity and accountability.
To help non-profit leaders navigate today’s increasingly complex governance environment, the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) introduces the Professional Directors Program (PDP) for NGO Boards — a specialized and highly practical governance program designed for incumbent and aspiring trustees, executive directors, and senior officers of non-profit organizations.
The PDP for NGO Boards equips leaders with the governance mindset, frameworks, and practical tools needed to create sustainable societal value. Participants will gain deeper insights into board leadership, oversight responsibilities, donor and stakeholder expectations, regulatory compliance, risk management, and institutional sustainability — empowering them to become more effective stewards of their organizations and catalysts for meaningful impact.
Led by ICD’s distinguished roster of Teaching Fellows and governance practitioners, the program draws from extensive real-world experience in corporate foundations, NGOs, professional associations, and mission-driven institutions. Through highly interactive virtual sessions, case discussions, and hands-on workshops, participants will explore actual NGO boardroom dynamics and governance challenges faced by organizations today.
This comprehensive 40-hour virtual program consists of tailored modules that open with an Introduction to Corporate Governance for NGOs and Effective NGO Boards covering the Audit, Governance, and Resource Mobilization Committees. This is followed by deep dives into the significant responsibilities of NGO boards, namely: Strategy, Policy, Accountability, and Board Oversight.
By the end of the program, participants will be better prepared to strengthen governance practices, enhance organizational resilience, and lead their institutions with greater accountability, effectiveness, and purpose.
